The Central Darfur State Radio and Television Authority's press security services detained Hafida Abdullah Musa while she was covering a protest sit-in in a market in Zalingei. The journalist was filming the protest when security forces stopped her and confiscated her phone before arresting her at a police station.

Overall civic space remained REPRESSED but also declined across all the four pillars of civic space. Rights of Association and Assembly continue to lead the decline in civic space followed by Freedom of Expression and Access to Information, Citizen Participation and Non-Discrimination/Inclusion.

The Information Crimes Prosecution issued a decision to shut down the website of Al-Sudani newspaper, in accordance with Articles (25/24) of the Information Law. The decision was issued by the Director of the Communications and Post Regulatory Agency to close the newspaper's account on the Internet. The editor-in-chief of the newspaper confirmed that they had not received notification of their summons or interrogation by the prosecution, pointing out that they learned of the decision through social media. It is noteworthy that a previous decision was issued by the Public Prosecution Office, last year, to close 31 news websites, including Al-Sudani newspaper, and it was invalidated by a decision of the Public Prosecution.

In the month of September 2022, the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) documented several incidents during which Sudanese authorities tried to interfere with the exercise of media freedom and free expression. During the course of their work, journalists have been attacked and/or judicially harassed on several occasions. ACJPS also documents the election of members of the Sudanese Journalist Association in August 2022 in this brief.

The security authorities arrested journalist Amira Saleh, while covering demonstrations in Khartoum yesterday. Journalist Omar Ibrahim was wounded in his jaw with a tear gas canister during the demonstrations. The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate said, in a statement, that the journalist Amira Saleh was detained in one of the police units before being transferred to the police stations and held there until the early hours of the next morning. The union called on the security and military services to respect freedom of expression and access to information
