Overall civic space remained REPRESSED but also declined across all the four pillars of civic space. Rights of Association and Assembly continue to lead the decline in civic space followed by Freedom of Expression and Access to Information, Citizen Participation and Non-Discrimination/Inclusion.

Restraining criminal reports against union leaders in the White Nile

The police arrested three leaders of the Teachers Syndicate in the White Nile State, and they were imprisoned before being released on the normal guarantee after a report was filed against them. The union confirmed that the measures taken against them were due to their refusal to hand them over the union's assets to an unknown party that is not recognized by the teachers.

The Tax Authority bureau issues a decision banning trade union activity within the Bureau

The Secretary General of the Tax Bureau issued a decision banning the practice of any union activity within the Bureau. In a statement which was circulated to all branches of the states, the bureau states that the decision came after observing the movement of individuals and entities in offices, departments, and centers to collect signatures to demand the rights of workers. The Secretary-General of the Court had issued a decision last May, in which he considered union work to be political activity.

Leader of the National Umma Party is exposed to a failed assassination attempt

An assassination attempt was made on the Secretary of the National Umma Party, West Darfur State branch, by shooting at his house in El Geneina. According to the party, Abdul Rasoul Abdul Wahed said in a statement that the attempt was orchestrated by the party's activity in exposing corruption operations carried out by the state government in the land sector. He urged the local government to launch an immediate investigation to identify the perpetrators.
