Sudan features prominently in 2020 State of Civil Society Report

CIVICUS World Alliance has today launched the 2020 State of Civil Society Report. The launch of this report comes at a time of significant global shifts, where the lockdowns going on in most countries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic are "having a profound impact on economic life, the rights of vulnerable and excluded groups and civic freedoms."

The State of Civil Society Report 2020 argues that post-pandemic recovery offers an opportunity to build back better systems - in which rights are respected and measures that make societies fairer, greener and more just are prioritized."

Sudan features prominently in this years report, under the "The state of democratic freedoms" section. The section presents interviews with leading civil society activists and leaders and the role played by civil society in ending 30 years of the authoritarian rule of the deposed President Omar Al-Bashir and his National Congress Party (NCP).
