El Guneina bans assembly, protests, and strike
Security forces have stormed the building of the “Sheli Al Fil Women Society” in the Blue Nile town of Ed Damazin and dispersed members of the association then in a meeting. The security forces claimed the society was engaged in missionary activities and had received support from outside Sudan.
It is to be noted that the Society was established in 2009 and its activities focus on education and health in the Blue Nile State.
The security agents have threatened the members of the Society and prohibited their activities unless they obtain permission from security authorities, forcing the Society to freeze its activities and limit the movement of its members. Hudu Centre expressed concerns over Security threats to the civil society and called for amendment of the voluntary work law referred to in the constitution under Article 4 (interpretation): Voluntary work means any non-profit voluntary and humanitarian activity established to provide humanitarian assistance and relief, general services, human rights services, conserve the environment, improve social and economic standards of the beneficiaries and provide voluntary and humanitarian work in the said areas”
