Gedarif-based Communist Party Secretary arrested during recent protests

Sudanese security services on Saturday arrested the Assistant Secretary of the Communist Party and deputy president of the committee of competitions in the Sudanese Football Federation in the State of Gedaref in eastern Sudan Mr. Ramzi Yahia Saleh during recent protests in the State.

The security services launched a campaign of violent arrests in Gedarif targeted political leaders, including leaders of the Communist Party, notably Al Tahir Al Saer and Al Zain Qenawi, in addition to the leader of the Umma Party Mr. Atta and were transported to Khartoum, according to sources spoke to Baj News. They were arrested during the procession of 9 January, called by the Sudanese Professionals Association to demand President Al Bashir step down.

The arrests are considered violation of human rights enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
