Port Sudan Dockers go on work strike

Port Sudan-based informed sources revealed to Sudafax Network that Port workers went on strike; with images reaching the Network showing a gathering of workers at the Port Gate. The photos also showed the gate blocked by a container, with Dockers assembling near it. Last week, the Port city witnessed several incidents where security and army personnel clashed among themselves, leaving one security agent dead.

Dockers Trade Union in the Port city organized a series of work strike, after the disclosure of conclusion of contracts between government and foreign corporate to provide loading and offloading services at the Port, a development that may lead to a layoff of hundreds of Dockers in the Port.

Human rights charters guarantee the right to peaceful assembly, the right of citizens to express their demands in a peaceful manner, any violence or restriction of this right is considered a violation of an inherent right for citizens, guaranteed by the constitution and human rights instruments.
