Lawyer and Human Rights Activist detained and tortured

An eyewitness reported that Mr. Abdel Basset Mohamed, a lawyer and Kamal Ahmed Al Zain, a political human rights activist, were being detained in Dabk prison, and are being subjected to torture and beatings by the security services.

This is a violation of their constitutional rights, as well as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. ”Article (21): The right to peaceful assembly is recognized. No restrictions may be placed on the exercise of this right except those imposed in accordance with the law and which constitute necessary measures, in a democratic society, to maintain national security, public safety or public order, or protect public health or public morals, or protect the rights and freedoms of others”.
