Detainee relatives urge rights groups and political parties to push for his release

The family of Mohamed Diaa, the spokesperson of the mainstream Arab socialist Baathist Party, who was detained by security authorities a long time ago, demanded his release. The family, which presented a medical report to security authorities, said his health does not allow lengthy detention. Detentions of party and opposition members violates their freedoms. Article 40/1 of the Interim Constitution of the Sudan for 2005 provides: “the right to peaceful assembly shall be guaranteed; every person shall have the right to freedom of association with others, including the right to form or join political parties, associations and trade or professional unions for the protection of his/her interests”.
