Government measures in response to COVID-19 hampers the work of Sudanese Journalists

The Sudanese Journalists Union has today issued a press statement in which it noted an alarming increase in the frequency of journalists being stopped at checkpoints and bridges and obstructed from pursuing their reporting and coverage, as well as disrespect and a lack of appreciation for their work by the authorities.

The statement calls on the relevant authorities in the transitional government to remove these obstacles that are curtailing their movement and undermining their ability to carry out their responsibility of timely reporting on events and issues that are unfolding in the country.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lockdown in Khartoum state has continued unabated since 13 April and is posing serious challenges to the transitional agenda and civic space in the country.
