Reuters photographer prohibited, license revoked
Reuters’ photographer, Al Tayeb Al Siddiq, was summoned by the National Intelligence and Security Services on Thursday for investigation, his work ID was confiscated. According to Al Taghyeer newspaper website, security authorities were not happy with the way he covers protests in Sudan. Earlier, security authorities also confiscated IDs of correspondents of international news agencies, namely Al Jazreea and Al Arabiya who were suspended for some time.
These decisions violate the press freedom guaranteed by the constitution of the Sudan which provides for the right to freedom of expression, reception and dissemination of information, publication and access to the press. The constitution also provides that the state shall guarantee the freedom of press and other media as shall be regulated by the law in a democratic society.
