Security releases opposition National Consensus Forces leading figure
Security authorities yesterday released Mr. Amin Saad, a leading figure in the opposition National Consensus Forces, after detention for two days.
According to Al Midan newspaper, Mr. Saad said security authorities’ interrogation focused on the recent wave of popular protest spearheaded by the National Consensus Forces. “I told the security officer that the National Consensus Forces will continue to organize the masses to agitate for regime change,” he said. “Before I was released, the security officer told me that I could receive further summons any time,” Mr. Saad added.
The Interim Constitution of the Sudan, in its Part II provides for the right to peaceful assembly, freedom of association and expression. Similarly, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its Article 19 states that: everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
