Security summons chief editor of Baj News and Ms Maha Al Tilib
Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services, summoned journalist Ms Maha Al Tilib, who works in Al Tayar newspaper and investigated her on a number of media issues. The Editor-in-chief of Baj News website, Ms Lina Yaqoub, was also summoned hours after summoning Al Tilib.
Al Rakoba newspaper confirmed that the security on Saturday evening summoned and investigated Ms Lina Yaqoub for 12 continuous hours, until 4:00, demanding her to reveal her sources, asking her to return to the security headquarters at 9 am on Sunday morning to continue the investigation.
Baj News website reported that the security apparatus detained the mobile phone and personal computer of its editor Ms Lina Yaqoub.
Article 39 (1) of the Sudanese Constitution stipulates that “every citizen shall have the unrestricted right to the freedom of expression, reception and dissemination of information, publication, and access to the press without prejudice to order, safety or public morals as determined by law”.
