Sudanese Presidency Adopts Voluntary Work Support Fund

Sudanese Presidency of the Republic announced it adoption of Voluntary Work Support Fund which is aimed at supporting national organisations working in the humanitarian field; it also requested Social Security and Development Ministry to present the proposal of said Fund.

During his speech in the establishing of the National Volunteering Day in Khartoum, Abdelrahman Al-Saddig, Assistant to the President of the Republic, emphasised the commitment of the Presidency of the Republic towards supporting all the proposals supporting and strengthening voluntary and humanitarian work in Sudan.

On the other hand, Social Security and Development Minister, Mashaer Al-Doulab, emphasised the importance of said National Volunteering Day which she regarded as one of the valuable Sudanese days in which good organisations meet to brainstorm about meeting the challenges within the humanitarian work field. She mentioned the efforts she witnessed in supporting the weak, refugees of Sudan and refugees of other neighbouring countries in addition to efforts of voluntary return efforts which Darfur and other areas of Sudan have witnessed as well as the aid missions sent by Sudanese people to the neighbouring countries.

During the ceremony of the celebration, several national organisations working in the field were honoured, also, the ceremony included for the first time the honouring of Jana Voluntary Media Initiative which leads its voluntary work electronically through the new means of communication and media and contributes to social development as well as promoting the efforts of voluntary work through the different means of media.

The Voluntary and Humanitarian Work (Organization) Act, 2006 states in Article 4 (Interpretation) that: ““voluntary and humanitarian work” means any non-profit voluntary humanitarian activity, carried out by any national, or foreign voluntary, or charitable organization, registered in the Sudan, targeting rendering humanitarian aids, relief, public services, human rights services protection of the environment or enhancement of economic and social standers of the beneficiaries, and renders voluntary humanitarian work in the said fields.”
