This guiding note, developed together with CIVICUS, sets out some of the key aspects of the right to the freedom of peaceful assembly as covered in international law, including under the UN Human Rights Committee General Comment 37.

At the 32nd special session of the Human Rights Council on the human rights implications of the ongoing situation in the Sudan, the Council adopted Resolution A/HRC/S-32/L.1 in which it condemned in the strongest possible terms the military takeover on 25 October 2021 by the Sudanese military against the Transitional Government and called for the immediate restoration of the civilian-led Transitional Government.
