Consultations on Draft Law of the Electoral Commission

In an effort to expand public participation and citizen engagement, the Ministry of Justice invited civil society organizations and the media to a one day meeting around the draft law of the new electoral commission.

The meeting was inaugurated by the Minister of Justice, Nasreldin Abdel Barri who stated that the aim of the meeting was to listen to the views and opinions of CSOs, research constitutions, think tanks and the media who were involved and following elections-related issues on the draft elections commission law.

The purpose of the law is to establish a commission that is independent and professional, mandated to manage the electoral process in the future as well as participate in the process of reforming the political system in the country.

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the International Foundation for Democracy and Elections (IDEA International).
