Security agents have carried out large scale detentions targeted activists, students and party leading figures in El Fasher and Nyala cities in Darfur in the wake of a call by the Sudanese Professionals Association to the people to hit the streets on Sunday 13 January 2019 in peaceful demos. The security agents detained political and civil leaders.

Human Rights charters provide for the right to peaceful expression and protest. The measures taken by the authorities to prevent citizens from exercising their constitutional right to peaceful expression and protests contravenes the conventions and government’s commitments to these charters.
