South Darfur doctors strike
Assistant doctors in South Darfur Nyala Teaching Hospital went on strike on Thursday to protest non-payment of their financial entitlements and the deteriorating work conditions.
Security authorities in the State on Wednesday summoned deputy specialist Dr. Abdul Rahman Makram and on Thursday summoned Dr. Abdul Rahim Khalifa, a specialist of internal therapy.
Earlier, doctors working under the health insurance program in Eastern Darfur decided to stop working to protest deteriorating working conditions and low pay.
The labour law and the interim constitution of the Sudan guarantee workers the right to go on strike. “Freedom of assembly and formation of trade unions and related right to strike shall require the protection of organizers of the strike, leaders of labour organizations and their members from prejudicial measures.
