The Sudanese Journalists Union (dissolved in 2019 by the government) released a statement denouncing the harassment and arrests of Journalists under the accusation of” inciting strife and undermining the constitutional order”.
The statement came in response to the arrest on 13 February 2021 of the journalist Ishac Ahmed Fadllalah who writes for Al-Intibaha newspaper. The statement also described the arrest as part of a fierce campaign initiated by the government against freedom of the press and freedom of opinion targeting several journalists that include the owner of Omduramn TV channel and Alwan Newspaper Hussain Khogali and the journalist blogger from Geddref state Yassir Mohamed Al Hadi.
The Sudanese Journalists Union was the official union of journalists during the previous regime and after the revolution was dissolved by the government and a steering committee appointed (by the government) in its stead until such time that a new union would be elected.
